Hi,

Zeroshell 3.0.0 includes relevant new features such as the automatic update system that automatically applies security and bug fixes, and allows to upgrade to the next releases.
Several bugs have been fixed and the security improved. The MRTG graphs no longer require an activation key to be viewed.
There are several kernels optimized for different processors and a kernel compiled with PAE (Physical Address Extension) which allows you to use more than 4GB of RAM.

Greetings and Happy New Year
Fulvio

Awesome! What's the best way to donate or contribute to the project?

You should write a piece of documentation for example.

Is the configuration of the Zeroshell 2.0rc2 version compatible with the new version 3.0?

Thank You.

Yes - I've just backup up my old config and restored on a new 3.0 VM, using the webUI. Everything is working.

Just wanted to let everyone know, that v.3.0 has load-balancing already built in and it works fine - La ringrazio tanto Fulvio!

In my case I was still using atheling's patch while on 1.0b and it just had to be removed in v.3.0 by commenting out cron startup script.

Is the new version compatible with Soekris NET5501?

I installed it on my 2GB CF, but I am unable to access it.
I change my IP address to 192.168.0.5 with the Gateway 192.168.0.75.

I realized the problem and it is that it is not installing on the CF Cards or the USB Cards.
I tired multiple 1GB & 2GB CF cards and USB cards.

They are all reporting the same error at the end on the Image install.

ERROR Message with 2GB Cards: 1967128576 bytes writtenWrite error after 1967128576 bytes (8192).

ERROR Message with 1GB Card: 1018691584 bytes writtenWrite error after 1018691584 bytes (8192).

I have clean the CF and USB using the DISKPART / CLEAN commands and it still reports the same error message.

I have tried using the "ZeroShell-3.0.0-Disk-2GB.img.gz" & the "ZeroShell-2.0.RC3-Soekris-2GB.img.gz" images with no luck.

I have run the "physdiskwrite" on both Windows 7 & Windows 8 from the CMD line in Administrative Mode with no success.

I am trying to get my Soekris net5501 board back up and running.
I am completely down.

Can anyone help or advise?

Hi Fulvio,

many thanks for your new version 3.0.0. In this version there are several optimized kernels. Is it possible for you to provide a 2.6 kernel this way? Many of us need the L7-filter missing in versions > beta16.

Thanks in advance.

Pit

Hi Fulvio,

Thanks for this amazing software!
I was wondering, how often do you send activation codes?

Best regards,
Lucas

Hello Fulvio; Will ZeroShell 3.0.0 work on Soekris NET5501 board using a 2GB Compact Flash?

Aren't you supposed to use designated Soekris image, as in ZeroShell-2.0.RC3-Soekris-2GB.img.gz?

There does not seem to be Soekris image for v.3 as I can see, only PC image.

Besides that, can you try booting into Linux live CD and using dd command to write image to CF? It worked for me, I am not using Windows for many years now after struggling with lots of similar issues.

It's been a long time since I followed the old instructions on how to install VMware Tools to a Zeroshell install, but with the CF / disk image version now available it might be easier. I'm going to take a stab at making a OVF template for v3.0, and I'll test on ESXi 5.1.

I remember that 1.6 supported Intel E1000 cards, which ESX 4 and later emulate, so I imagine it'll work out of the box on VMware. What LAN card does HyperV normally emulate?

(Note: I'm not a Linux guru.)

I started messing with 3.0.0 yesterday, and found that the installation manager did create a self-contained no-CD disk for me, but it still is a read-only "Live CD" contained in a CDFS (or UDF?) partition on the resulting disk.

This isn't the Linux I expected, as I was hoping for something I could do a straight-forward VMware Tools installation to, but it does allow for some interesting possibilities because I can put the tools into a database profile. There could be separate profiles for VMware, for Hyper-V, for VirtualBox and so on, all without corrupting the initial installation.

This also makes me wonder if VMware Tools could some day be repackaged into a downloadable package available from the Zeroshell package manager. In the meantime, I'll try following the tools installation instructions that worked on ZS 1.6.

That was this thread: http://www.zeroshell.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2148 but I had to re-link /etc/modules instead of /lib/modules, which just linked to /etc/modules anyway.

And see if this profile works: http://www.zeroshell.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4328

Fulvio,

When can we expect a patch for the OpenSSL "Heartbleed Bug" for 3.0. Any chance you can do this for previous releases in a way that we can just drop in the binary to make it an easy upgrade?

Nevermind --

I answered my own reply when I read more about the issue. Currently the version of OpenSSL on 3.0 and 2.0RC3 is "OpenSSL 0.9.8u 12 Mar 2012".

According to the CVE and other docs 0.9.8 is not effected, so no update is needed. Though it would be nice to update to current version to nail other issues, but this issue does not have an affect on ZS
