Hello!

I am using Zeroshell on Intel Atom system, that has one regular PCI slot. So far I have been sucessfully using dual intel gigabit NIC (82546EB) and it has worked without problem. But I need more ports and since I could not get any USB adapters working, I decided to replace it with QUAD port NIC. I did buy Quad port Intel NIC (D35392-004) from ebay, but it appears it does not fit into regular PCI slot.

So the question is, what kind of quad NIC should I buy that works with Zeroshell and that fits into regular PCI port? Please share your experience.

From what I read (from some linux forum) Sun Quad NIC (cheapest and most numerous on ebay) would be troublesome, because its MAC-addresses change after every reboot. Opinions?

Update: I did order more Quad network cards:

SUN Microsystems 501-6738-10 Gigabit Gigaswift Ethernet:

I did not get this one to work, using 3.3.7 kernel. It does display "probing cassini" for over a minute during startup, but in the end does not detect network adapters.

SUN MICROSYSTEMS 501-5406 QUAD 10/100 ETHERNET:

This one works (with 3.3.7 kernel)! It is displayed as:
"Oracle Corporation Happy Meal 10/100 Ethernet [hme] (rev 01)" in zeroshell.
One problem I found is that it does show link up/down statuses incorrect. But other than that this NIC works fine.

EDIT:

Another NIC just arrived:

Cisco PIX-VAC-PLUS 4-Port Fast Ethernet Card 74-3188-01-4FE-66:

Zeroshell detects it and GUI displays it as:
"Intel Corporation 82557/8/9/0/1 Ethernet Pro 100 (rev 08)"
Link up/down status is displayed right. But data is not transmitted, so this card does not work with 3.3.7 kernel Zeroshell.

So out of total 4 Quad NICs that i have bought, only one works. Well, guess still better than nothing.

I am using Intel D2500CC Atom mainboard, that has dual Intel 82574L gigabit NICs.

Update: Today I tested previously not working network cards again with Zeroshell 3.0.0 that has new kernel 3.4.75.

SUN Microsystems 501-6738-10 Gigabit Gigaswift Ethernet:

I was able to get this Quad gigabit card to work!

It is reported as:
National Semiconductor Corporation DP83065 [Saturn] 10/100/1000 Ethernet Controller (rev 30)

Cisco PIX-VAC-PLUS 4-Port Fast Ethernet Card 74-3188-01-4FE-66:

Also working, now data is being transmitted!

Bad news - Quad-port SUN Microsystems 501-6738-10 Gigabit Gigaswift Ethernet only worked for few hours, then ports stops working. Started using other port, after some hours it stops too. Need machine restart to get it working again.

So does anyone know Quad gigabit network adapters, that work with ZeroShell? Can you recommend anything? What hardware are you people using?

Since we are getting cheap 300Mbit/300Mbit internet now here, 100M does not quite cut it any more, need to upgrade hardware.
