After writing .img file to the HDD with dd I rebooted and got a message 'invalid magic number, boot kernel first, then pressed a key and got into GRUB with 3 menu entries for Zeroshell.

What is the correct process to install to a HDD?

I used:

Code:
sudo dd if=ZeroShell-2.0.RC3-IDE-USB-SATA-Disk-2GB.img of=/dev/sdh

then set the boot flag for the first partition. (/dev/sdh is my usb key)

Hi,
the Install Manager makes the installation on disk (also USB Flash) much faster and easier. To use the Install Manager you need Zeroshell 3.0.0 with the package 30200 installed.

The correct way is:

dd if=/path/to/image.img of=/dev/<disk device> bs=1m

So, try bs=1M or bs=1m after the command you tried earlier Smile

Also, if you're on OSX, use /dev/rdisk<num> instead of /dev/disk<num>, since that will be a lot faster.

Fulvio,

Now that you explained how to get the package, I'll try it 1st thing once I get to the office!

sball:

Are you saying 1Mb block size would fix the install via dd?
It would make it faster I am sure, but making a difference... I am not that knowledgeable about dd Sad

Thank you guys!

Turns out that my issues with dd were due to a faulty external USB case.
It worked fine after I connected hdd via IDE cable.

I have not had a chance to use install manager as I tried with a drive that was created via dd and it could not use it.
