Hi
I'm testing vpn. I have two computers conected with a crossed cable. I configure a von lan-to-lan. I tray to transfer a file with ftp and:
if i do it over vpn I get a 2.5MB/s transfer. If I do it outside vpn, I mean over the wan ip of ZS with a virtual server I get a 12MB/s speed.
Is it normal that the speed over a vpn lan-to-lan is slower tha directly.
thanks |

Yes, it's normal because you have tunneling and encryption performance hits.
Tunneling traffic eats may be 10% or more - don't know, and encryption may reduce traffic by 20-60% according to selected encryption protocol.
There are not only packets payload but additional work for CPU and/or NIC. You can try this by copying file over, for example, ftp protocol, and then over ssh (scp). |
