Is your modem recognized by your system?
open a terminal window / console
insert following command: dmesg
or
lsusb
If your hardware is recognized use pppoe / pppoe-conf or similar to configure.

I just saw an article (older) on
http://free-electrons.com/blog/usbeth/I want a usb-eth too. (to use an old notebook as gateway or firewall)
Do you know this (forum) ?= It help me with my usb-modem.
