download this file here but be sure of what your drive # is
then make a .bat file called writenow.bat
edit that file and put this inside it:
physdiskwrite -u ZeroShell-1.0.beta8-CompactFlash512.img
after you save the file make a folder on the root named zeroshell, copy those files into that folder as well as the compact flash version of zeroshell in the unzipped state, and when ready run the writenow.bat file and follow the on screen prompts.
this works for me everytime, if you have an existing zeroshell configuration, be sure to back it up before hand.
I would be willing to implant a balancer as i too will be needing one, at present bandwidth is limited to the specified user and the ip of the vlan.
This one looks like it could be a decent working module, http://sourceforge.net/projects/balance/
any other suggestions?
I run 2 systems in parallel and one is a dual amd opteron 1.8 with 4gb with 2 gigabit nics and one 100mb nic, the other is a p3 933 with 512mb and 40gb hd with 2 100mb nics, with 14 AP’s, 4 repeaters, and give or take 30 simultaneous users at a time online, the load for opteron system runs usually at 0.01 to 0.03 percent and the p3 system runs between 0.01 to 0.08 percent.
In my present experience, with zs running on hard drives, there is minimal load on the systems, all together there is a total of 7 vlans for different user levels and bandwidth allotment for each group.
AWESOME WORK fulvio
cant wait to try the beta 8 and other new features.
Is there a list of commands that are applicable to the zeroshell OS as well a description of their functionality. I am anxious to try out different commands and “tweak” the system and make it a bit more robust and increase usability.
I am also interested in this, i am / have been looking for a good captive portal and all the ones i have tried have some kind of flaw or dont work for an ip range i am looking for. I am wanting to use a class B subnet and have a wide range of ip addresses for my hotspots and subscribers, the reason being it would make it harder for the end users to be compromised by someone with less than perfect intents to hack their pc. as an example, i would have an ip range from 188.8.131.52 to 184.108.40.206 for self sign up users and 192.168.0.0 to 192.168.255.255 for customers with a 6 month contract. Would it also be to something like paypal wifi-1.1.1 prepaid, http://sourceforge.net/projects/wifipaypal/ , to the captive portal interface page. this is a relatively easy thing to use, but i ran into problems with the linux distro’s i had tried, not related to this software.
just a thought though
would it be possible to add a feature that will pickup dhcp from a DSL or Cable modem automatically so that it would be easier and faster to get a system up and operational. At present i am running the beta 7 release of the CF 512mb version on a hard drive and i am highly impressed with the speed. i would also like to know of see if it would be possible to get a release schedule as i am anxious to use the other features not yet available.
The system overall is outstanding.
